Where to buy insurance in Prague

To extend their long-term stay in the Czech Republic, students and entrepreneurs need to take out comprehensive medical insurance. There are only six major commercial insurance companies: Unqua, Maxima, Slavia, ERGO, AXA, and pVZP. To understand the differences between the companies’ offers, in which case you will be best protected, and which insurance is more advantageous than others, foreigners should contact insurance company representatives. Representatives can offer insurance at a lower price than that offered on the official websites of commercial insurance companies.

How to choose an insurance company in Prague?

There are several companies in Prague that sell medical insurance. When choosing which one to go with, pay attention to the following points:

  1. Official license from ČNB (Czech National Bank)
Official representatives of insurance companies always have a license issued by the ČNB. You can only trust a representative if they have a license. You have the right to ask a company employee to show you their license to ensure that you are dealing with a competent professional.
  1. Office availability
An official representative of a medical insurance company cannot be a freelancer without an office and issue insurance policies in a café. They must have a laptop or computer, a database, a printer for printing documents, and a telephone at their disposal. Consultations should take place in a quiet and peaceful environment, and confidentiality must be maintained. If you are approached by a representative who suggests meeting in the center of Prague, this is a reason to think twice.
  1. Competent consultants
The representative offices have consultants with legal, medical, or economic education who can competently advise on all issues related to insurance. Prices, conditions, limits, differences between policies, and selection of the optimal insurance option for a specific client—a competent specialist must know all this.
  1. Competitive prices
Representatives offer insurance on more favorable terms than those listed on insurance company websites. Currently, comprehensive medical insurance policies cost from 9,000 kroner per year.
  1. Full set of documents
When you purchase comprehensive insurance in the Czech Republic from an official representative, you will receive a medical insurance policy, a receipt for payment, a plastic card with your name on it, and a list of contracted hospitals where you can see a doctor. All of this is completed directly at the company’s office in 15 minutes.
